Polar Bears in Churchill Churchill, “Polar Bear Capital of the World”

Located on the western shore of Hudson Bay and not accessible by road lies the small northern seaport of Churchill, Manitoba. Traveling on a Tundra Buggy is the most comfortable and safe way to experience a polar bear tour in the bears' natural environment.

Plan to come to Churchill during October or November when the bears are slowly congregating along the coast, anticipating the winter freeze-up of Hudson Bay. When the Bay freezes, the polar bears can get onto the ice to hunt their favourite meal, ringed seal.

We operate all our polar bear adventures (with the exception of our Legendary Cape Churchill adventure) approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) east of the town of Churchill in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area. This world-famous destination has the largest concentration of polar bears and provides the best opportunities to view and photograph arctic wildlife. We currently hold the most tourist vehicle permits issued by Manitoba Conservation for the Churchill Wildlife Management Area.

Depending on what your trip goals are, we can help accomplish them. What's most important to you? Photography opportunities? Price? Time? Cultural activities?

With a Tundra Buggy Adventure polar bear tour, we offer the most program options and departure dates to choose from, providing many excellent opportunities for you to experience wild polar bears from a Tundra Buggy!

Churchill Town and Tundra Experience

Churchill is a small, northern community with a lot of character; you won't find one of the big-chain hotels here that you might find in a larger centre. You will, however, find warm, down-home hospitality and clean, comfortable hotels with all the amenities. Staying in town will allow you to walk to and from the different venues, spend some time on your own, and perhaps meet some of the locals.
