Sixteen select students travelled to Churchill, MB from around the world to participate in a unique five-day subarctic experience at the 2007 Polar Bears International Leadership Camp.
While in Churchill the students spent time with Parks Canada on a maternal den study and a day with Manitoba Conservation understanding the Polar Bear Alert Program. They also participated in two videoconferences with fellow students from Mapleton School in Selkirk, Manitoba and with the Oregon Zoo.
This is the fourth year the Tundra Buggy® Adventure has teamed with Polar Bears International (PBI) to host Polar Bear Leadership Camp. PBI is a non-profit organization whose mission is polar bear 'Conservation through Education'.
This year's student participants are between the ages of 15 and 17 and hail from Denmark, Australia, the United States and Canada (including Churchill).
Leadership Camp participants have shared their findings and experiences from the isolated, barren tundra back to civilization via online journals and videos which can be found on PBI's website.
