Robert R. Taylor is a naturalist, photographer, and writer with over forty years of experience. In 1963, majoring in science photography, he graduated from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto.

Bob was awarded a fellowship in the Professional Photographers Association of Manitoba and has earned the honour of Master of Photographic Arts of the Professional Photographers of Canada. In 1978, he was accepted into the prestigious Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, one of the few photographers to have received this honour.

He has traveled extensively throughout Canada, particularly in the north, and to parts of the western United States and Alaska. His travels abroad have taken him to the Galapagos Islands, Pribilof Islands, Ecuador, Egypt, Holland, England, Trinidad, Tobago, Tanzania, and Kenya. Bob has conducted numerous safaris to Kenya and continues to regularly take groups there. For more than twenty years he has conducted photography workshops at Churchill, Manitoba, and in other locations.

In recent years, Bob Taylor has spent most of the summer months in the Canadian Arctic, photographing and leading tours to Cambridge Bay, Yellowknife, Iqaluit, Igloolik, and Wager Bay. These expeditions have been in quest of polar bears, muskox, caribou, walrus, bowhead whales, beluga whales, other mammals and birds, and the fascinating arctic plant-life and landscapes.

Books such as Wilderness Canada, The Yellowhead Route, Manitoba, The Great Gray Owl: Phantom of the Northern Forest, Canada: Coast to Coast, Wildflowers of Churchill, Non-Metallic Minerals of Manitoba, and Carved From The Land, have featured his photography.

Robert's work has also appeared in many national and international magazines including, Equinox, International Wildlife, Life, Reader's Digest, Airone, Photo Life, Birder's World, American Birds, Photo Digest, Birds of the Wild, The Beaver, Art Impressions, and Canadian Geographic.

His award-winning book portraying the scenery and nature of Manitoba, The Manitoba Landscape: A Visual Symphony, has far exceeded the best seller mark for a Canadian book and underwent five printings. The Edge of the Arctic: Churchill and the Hudson Bay Lowlands also exceeded all expectations in sales and the revised edition, The Edge of the Arctic: Churchill and the Hudson Bay Region, is now enjoying even greater success. It has a particular emphasis on the world famous polar bears.

Another of Robert's recent publications is the result of over thirty years of observation and photography of the magnificent Great Gray Owl. The Great Gray Owl: On Silent Wings contains colour photographs of all aspects of the owl's life, including intimate scenes at the nest and spectacular flight shots in winter. This was the third of his self- published books.

Manitoba: Seasons of Beauty, published in October of 2002, has already gained popular acceptance and favourable reviews. It is a coffee table format book, which portrays some of the beautiful landscapes and nature of the province of Manitoba, from the prairie and farmlands of the south, through the extensive forested areas and the many lakes and rivers, to the sub arctic regions of the far north.

His love of nature and his lifelong interest in art has combined to yield a sensitivity that has not only inspired his own work, but that of others. His enthusiasm, knowledge, and ability to communicate have made him a popular lecturer, teacher, and tour leader.
